Hardwood Flooring Choices & Differences

Two installers fitting new hardwood flooring into an existing kitchen floor.

Natural Wood Has Character

Hardwood varies naturally in grain, tone and board-to-board appearance. Those variations are part of the character of a real wood floor.

Color and Finish

Natural wood color, stain, finish and lighting all influence the final appearance. Imperial primarily uses low-odor, low-VOC, GREENGUARD-certified water-based finishes, including Bona finishes and stains.

Hardness and Everyday Use

Wood species vary in hardness, but the way a floor performs also depends on finish, traffic, grit, furniture, pets and routine care.

Matching Existing Hardwood

Repairs and additions can often be coordinated beautifully with existing hardwood. Species, age, milling, stain and light exposure all influence how closely old and new flooring will blend.

Board Width and Layout

Board dimensions and layout influence the overall look of the room and how new flooring connects with existing floors, stairs, vents and adjoining surfaces.
