3 Simple Steps for Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Follow three simple steps to remove grit, clean lightly and protect the finish on hardwood floors. Guidance from Imperial Wood Floors near Madison, WI.
3 Steps to Clean Hardwood Floors Safely

1. Vacuum or Sweep

Remove loose dirt, sand, pet hair and grit with a soft-bristle broom, microfiber dust mop or vacuum set for hard floors. Avoid a rotating beater bar that may scratch the finish.

2. Use a Compatible Cleaner Sparingly

Use a cleaner recommended for your specific hardwood floor finish. Follow the label and apply only the amount directed. Do not pour cleaner or water directly onto the floor.

3. Wipe With a Clean Microfiber Pad

Work in manageable sections with a clean microfiber pad. Replace or rinse the pad when it becomes soiled so dirt is not spread across the floor. The surface should dry promptly without standing moisture.

A Note About Vinegar and Homemade Cleaners

For routine hardwood floor care, use a cleaner made for the floor’s finish and follow the product directions. Avoid vinegar and
water mixtures and homemade cleaners, which can dull or damage some hardwood floor finishes. When in doubt, use the floor
care products recommended for your hardwood surface.

Still Seeing Dullness, Scratches or Wear?

Cleaning cannot restore finish that has worn away. Ask Imperial whether your floor may benefit from a maintenance coat, repair or refinishing.
