3 Simple Steps for Cleaning Hardwood Floors
Follow three simple steps to remove grit, clean lightly and protect the finish on hardwood floors. Guidance from
Imperial Wood Floors near Madison, WI.
1. Vacuum or Sweep
Remove loose dirt, sand, pet hair and grit with a soft-bristle broom, microfiber dust mop or vacuum set for hard
floors. Avoid a rotating beater bar that may scratch the finish.
2. Use a Compatible Cleaner Sparingly
Use a cleaner recommended for your specific hardwood floor finish. Follow the label and apply only the amount
directed. Do not pour cleaner or water directly onto the floor.
3. Wipe With a Clean Microfiber Pad
Work in manageable sections with a clean microfiber pad. Replace or rinse the pad when it becomes soiled so dirt is not spread across the floor. The surface should dry promptly without standing moisture.
A Note About Vinegar and Homemade Cleaners
For routine hardwood floor care, use a cleaner made for the floor’s finish and follow the product directions. Avoid vinegar and
water mixtures and homemade cleaners, which can dull or damage some hardwood floor finishes. When in doubt, use the floor
care products recommended for your hardwood surface.
Still Seeing Dullness, Scratches or Wear?
Cleaning cannot restore finish that has worn away. Ask Imperial whether your floor may benefit from a maintenance coat, repair or refinishing.

EXCELLENT Based on 111 reviews Posted on Google Miranda MerkesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They did an amazing job!! Original 1950s flooring looks brand new. They even covered up an area where a wall was. You would never know it wasn't all one flush flooring. They had incredible dust free sanding so no icky particles floating around. Jeff also gave perfect instructions on when to walk on, set furniture and rugs and also when and what to clean the floors with. I will follow the instructions meticulously to kept them looking as perfect as they made them.Posted on Google Cynthia KoschmannTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very happy with the wood floor replacement in my kitchen. Jeremy, Jason and Ben did a great job. From contacting Jeff online to having a finished floor took a little over a month. Everyone was great about updating me with days and times when parts of the project would be done.Posted on Google Cayden WieseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was a pleasure working with Jeff from start to finish. Communication is timely. The in person quote was quick and competitive. Seeing stain samples on our floor helped tremendously, something he did as soon as possible. His service stands out with his experience and long term crew of employees. He and his team was able to get our 1800 sqft home completely sanded, stained, and sealed in 1 week. It turned out beautifully, and the sections that were previously missing wood now look perfectly seamless.Posted on Google Steven WeberTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a flooring refinishing project scheduled and discovered an unexpected repair issue the day before work was set to begin. Jeff came out late that evening to evaluate the problem and walk us through practical solutions so our timeline wouldn’t be impacted. He was incredibly flexible, adjusting his schedule and resources to complete the repair and refinish the floors without delaying the project. The level of responsiveness and commitment to keeping things on track truly exceeded our expectations.Posted on Google Joan PrestonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
